Conference Welcome

As chair of the Alabama/Mississippi Section of the AWWA, I would like to welcome you the 71st Annual Conference and to Birmingham, AL, the Magic City.  We are very excited that you have joined us for this event.  Our program is designed to include many aspects of the water industry for both seasoned and young professionals.

The conference begins with a variety of activities including the scholarship golf tournament and firing range competition.  It is important that our members and other water industry professionals network.  This is one way to tap younger individuals to carry the torch.  There are two more events that will allow this, the “Wine and Cheese” at the BJCC and dinner at the Barber Motorsports Museum.

On Monday, we will have educational and technical tracks following the opening session with Carla Reed, PE who is the keynote speaker.  Be sure to join us during the strolling lunch.  This is a great time to interact with exhibitors and other resources that play a role in the water industry.  Tuesday is another full day of activities designed to grow and strengthen our Section.  Since operators are a key component to the water treatment process, we have unique events for current and future individuals who are interested in this aspect of the water industry.  That afternoon will provide another time for all attendees to interact and discuss all things water during the tapping competitions and ice cream social.  Be sure to stay for the closing banquet.  We will present competition awards and close with “An Evening with Taylor Hicks,” an American Idol winner.

These are just a few of the opportunities which are available to you during the conference.  We have additional programming for the YP attendees and spouses.  I encourage you to take advantage of the many educational and technical sessions planned as well as use the social events to introduce yourself to the newer faces associated with the water profession.  It is my hope that you learn and grow from this conference as we continue to strengthen the industry by “Tapping into the Future.”

It truly has been an honor to have serve you.
